I've always wondered what those fences are for, 'cause I,ve nvever seen them down on Gulf Coast, Pensacola, Fort Walton, or Panama City, only on the North-East Atlantic. Are the for keeping people and pets off your beach, keeping people and pets o the beach and off your (rarher sandy) yard, or are they just there to look pretty, liike these do in your photo?

Sergent, we have crossed a strange boundary here... the world has taken a turn for the surreal.
I think they're supposed to be for keeping people off the sand dunes. We saw quite a few signs that said to keep off the dunes, and that's where these fences were. The problem is they don't really work. We sat right there and watched two teenage boys sliding down the sides of the dunes, "accidentally" kicking sand onto the person trying to sleep at the bottom of the dune. It was actually kind of funny....although the guy who had to wake up and pick sand out of his teeth wasn't laughing!
